Tears of Niobe Garnet and Pearl Earrings
In Greek Mythology, Queen Niobe had some 14 children before arrogantly boasting to Leto about her fertility, and declaring herself superior to the later.
Leto’s progeny – the devine twins Apollo and Artemis – get word of these insults and (in retaliation) summarily dispatch all 14 of Niobe’s children with arrows dipped in poison. In classic greek style all is witnessed by Niobe who later turns into a statue know for weeping.
Here a granulated Greek setting highlights Niobe’s faceted tears. Set in 24k gold over sterling silver, with European backs for pierced ears. Size 1 1/8 Inch.
