Vintage Shashi Cloisonné Floral Japanese Inro
As traditional Japanese robes lacked pockets, objects were often carried by hanging them from the obi in containers known as sagemono (a Japanese term for a hanging object attached to a sash). The inro is a small and highly decorated type of sagemono suitable for carrying small objects. This inro is a replica of a japanese original, it measures about 1 1/2 inches tall and is small enough to be worn as a necklace or can be tied about the waist in a more traditional manner. Copper base with hand-worked cloisonné enamel finish. Available in rust (shown), black, royal blue, spinach green or sky blue.
The Shashi jewelry offered here is vintage unused stock from the 1970’s and 1980’s. The pieces were designed by the Shashi Singapuri, crafted by hand, and were part of a line featured on the cover of vogue (quite a handful of times) and numerous other fashion magazines.
